Hello, my name is Caroline
I’ve been writing about drinks, on and off, since about 2010, and running tastings since 2018. I’m also a spirits judge, focussing on whisky and grape spirits, and have a General Certificate in Distilling from the IBD. (This doesn’t mean I’m a distiller, however – I suspect all I’d be able to make is bad-tasting poison! (I do make an okay mead, though,))
I’m fascinated by flavour, history and science, which means I was never going to escape falling hard for the world of drinks. And cigars, for that matter. I started running tastings because I wanted to introduce more people to the things I love, and – quite frankly – because it seemed like a fun excuse to drink more whisky…
I’m based in London and when I’m not working (or as some of you argue, ‘working’), you’ll find me hanging out with people who like wearing odd outfits (in the City and various wine societies in particular), doing various hobbies that involve being rained on, and looking after small cheeky dogs who think they’re the boss of me…
Behold the Brora Terrier.
(Ok, so she’s actually a Border Terrier clutching a mini of Brora, in case that needs explaining…)
Whilst Borders are excellent companions, they’re not the most useful tasting assistants – unless you’re at a steak tasting, that is.
Fortunately I have some lovely friends who can I rope in to help from time to time. They’re all experts in their subject and good fun to boot, so if you’re looking for a tasting or event for large numbers of people then I can usually assist.
